"Green" Remodeling
Environmental issues are at the forefront of the construction industry; and, "green" remodeling offers practical benefits to contractors and homeowners alike. In Fall 2007, NARI will launch a new "green" certification for remodelers similar to the "Earthcraft" program for builders. While we actively promote environmentally-sound practices as much as possible (learn our efforts toward compliance in the attached fact sheet), we will pursue "green" certification as it becomes available.

As members of GAHB and the EarthCraft House™ Program, your renovation can be certified as "green"! The Greater Atlanta Home Builders' EarthCraft House Renovation Program provides residential homeowners with third-party verification to ensure that green practices are employed throughout the remodeling process. Certification requires multiple inspections upon commencement and through the renovation by EarthCraft House Inspectors. The inspectors audit the project against an approved green checklist to confirm that specific green methods are in place, and a minimum score must be achieved for certification. State Licensed Contractor Certification - New Legal Requirement!
Effective July 1 2008, Georgia now requires all contractors (including plumbers, electricians, HVAC, as well as remodeling/general contractors) to hold state licensing. This legal requirement raises the level of professionalism within the home improvement industry. Licensing standardizes the professional knowledge and expertise as all licensed individuals must carry a minimum number of years working in the industry, must have performed a specific number of projects, and must successfully complete a written exam. For the homeowner, licensing provides protection against previously uninsured workers who may have limited experience or knowledge in the field in which they work. Also, permitting projects is part of the licensing requirements, which imposes all projects regardless of size to be permitted by county/city regulations. Only licensed contractors can pull permits. County/city municipalities will begin policing projects more widely to confirm permitting. Projects that are not properly permitted will be subject to fines incurred by the homeowner; and, certain projects could be shut down until permitting requirements have been met.
Therefore, while it has always been important to confirm that all home improvement workers you hire are licensed, insured, and references are checked, now it will be illegal to hire help who are uninsured. Many companies are rushing to meet these requirements to be able to continue working. The good news is that Totally Dependable Contracting is already state-licensed. We strive to meet and exceed customer satisfaction and industry standards!
Our license # is RBCO000654. Learn more about state licensure on the Secretary of State's website.

Handy Man Client Testimonials:

My husband and I recently used your services to get our home ready to sell. We had a basement issue that needed work. Not only did your team fix the problem completely but they were the most professional contractors we have ever encountered. What a wonderful experience this was for a change. I will use your company in my new house very soon. I'm making my list of things that need repair. Thanks to your company for giving me faith back in home-repair companies.

The service was as described in the Home Contractor evaluation guide that I received. The handymen arrived early and stayed on task until the work was completed. I was most impressed with the "pre-work" efforts that were done prior to their arrival on the jobsite and the fact that Totally Dependable (TD) gave me the option to purchase my own materials to help defray my total cost. TD sought out the manufacturers installation directions and had me submit photos of the jobsite before beginning.
