This cozy Sandy Springs home needed a kitchen update with a modest budget in mind that included capturing some adjacent space, new appliances to replace the worn out existing, and a facelift of the cabinetry.
In the beginning stages it was apparent that the owners of the home wanted a more "open" feel with updated finishes and new appliances. The largest obstacle to obtaining this was an enclosed bar area that simply wasn’t used very often and the integration of the Breakfast area, Family room and Kitchen into a free flowing space for entertaining. When we opened the walls and ceiling up at the bar area it was determined that additional engineered beams with a steel flitch plate to support the upper level of the home were going to be needed. We also provided engineered beams at the new bar wall area to support the upper level partition wall that rested above it. Based upon our budget, we could only install partial new cabinetry at the desk/wine storage area, a new island, and updated the remaining kitchen cabinetry with new paint, supplemental interior storage devices, and upgraded trim. New granite countertops, tumbled stone back splash, and polished travertine floor tile were installed. Recessed can lighting was installed at the ceiling, under cabinet task lighting, pendant lighting, a chandelier, and a ceiling fan were added to enhance the brightness of the Kitchen.
